1. Several basic concepts of satellite broadcasting business
Satellite Broadcasting Service (BSS-Broadcasting-satellite service)
Fixed-satellite service (FSS-Fixed-satellite service)
DBS-Direct broadcasting satellite
DTH-Direct to home
2. The development of satellite live broadcast services
The first stage: beginning in the 1970s, experimental stage.
The second stage: Beginning in the 1980s, the United States and Europe began to experiment with direct broadcast satellite services, most of which used FSS, but did not achieve commercial success.
The third stage, beginning in the 1990s, is the development stage. Hughes of the United States took the lead in launching a commercial digital direct broadcast satellite system. The late 1990s entered the golden period, and the satellite live broadcast systems of the United States, Japan and other countries were large in scale and advanced in technology.
3. Features of satellite live broadcast
Wide coverage: generally not affected by geographic barriers.
Strong transmission capacity: adopt digital compression and statistical multiplexing technology.
The signal quality is high: the number goes directly to the home, and there are few intermediate links.
Easy to receive: Ku-band high-power satellites are used, the receiving antenna has a small aperture, and the receiving equipment is simple.
Perfect user management: Adopt conditional access (CA) technology to realize real-time and effective management and service to users.
Strong comprehensive application capabilities: It can provide comprehensive services such as high-speed data, graphics, and interactive services.
4. Overview of China's Broadcast Satellite Service ITU Planning
At the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference in 2000 (WRC-2000 for short), the satellite broadcasting service in Regions I and III (BBS for short) was re-planned, and the relevant BSS regulations and technical standards were reviewed and revised. China belongs to the third area. In the new plan, China has 4 planning tracks: 62?E, 92.2?E, 122?E, 134?E. Among them, an independent beam was obtained for the Macao Special Administrative Region, which is located at 122 degrees east longitude together with the Hong Kong beam. In the 92.2?E orbital position, the planned uplink frequency is 17.3 GHz -17.8 GHz, and the downlink frequency is 11.7 GHz -12.2 GHz.

Reporting to ITU
In accordance with the requirements of the ITU, my country’s radio and television department has declared to the ITU the 92.2?E orbital position of the broadcast satellite telecommunications union in early 2003. The satellite beam covers China and neighboring countries and regions, and the satellite poles are marked as linear poles. For polarization or circular polarization, the satellite transponders are 4 54MHz transponders and 18 36MHz transponders.

Satellite readiness
The space segment of the National Direct Broadcasting System includes two satellites, namely the SINOSAT-2 broadcasting satellite and the Zhongxing 9 broadcasting satellite. The two satellites will be developed in accordance with the requirements of the same frequency, the same orbital position, the same coverage, and the same capacity, and they will be placed At 92.2?E. SINOSAT-2 is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2006, and China Satellite 9 will be launched in 2007.
5. Satellite live broadcast system composition
From the perspective of technical composition, the direct broadcast satellite system can be divided into a space segment and a ground segment.
Space segment is satellite (including ground monitoring system)
The ground segment can be divided into the front end, ground transmission, earth station, and receiving end (antenna and receiver).
Satellite live broadcast system space segment
Satellite: At present, the important performances of the internationally mature direct broadcast satellites are:
Working frequency band: Ku frequency band (direct broadcast satellite or fixed satellite service frequency band)
Power supply for payload: 8~10kW
Output power of traveling wave tube amplifier: 120/240W (single tube/parallel)
The number of traveling wave tube amplifiers is 40~50 (including off-line spare)
Life in orbit: 12-16 years
The advantages of direct broadcast satellite
The power of the transponder is large: generally 120W or 240W, the downlink EIRP can reach about 60dBW, and the ground field strength is evenly distributed. Less affected by terrestrial frequency interference (FSS frequency band is susceptible to terrestrial microwave interference).
It is protected by international conventions in the coverage area and is less interfered by other satellite waves.
