1. Technical System
The IPTV system is also called interactive TV. The broadcasting network of digital cable television adopts the HFC network system, which is the same as the traditional analog cable television network system architecture. However, the network system will be different when new interactive services (such as VOD) are carried out. The cable digital TV VOD system mainly includes VOD service, program acquisition and editing, storage and authentication and billing system. The main storage and transmission content is MP-2 TS stream, using IP OVER DWDM technology, based on DVD IP optical fiber network transmission, and distribution with IPTV The type of architecture is different. The cable digital TV VOD system uses a centralized service architecture. There is no need to configure a video server for content storage and distribution at the HFC sub-front end. It only needs to place DWDM receivers and GAM modulation equipment. The operating cost and management complexity of the system are greatly reduced, and the user terminal is a digital set-top box + TV. At present, the domestic digital TV industry chain has basically formed, and numerous digital TV set-top box manufacturers, front-end equipment manufacturers, and system integrators have emerged.

IPTV has very flexible interactive characteristics, because it has the inherent advantages of symmetrical interaction of IP network, and its programs are in the network, which can be broadcast, multicast, and unicast. It can realize various functions such as electronic menu, program reservation, real-time fast forward, fast reverse, terminal account and billing management, program scheduling, etc. very flexibly. In addition, other content services based on the Internet can also be launched, such as online games, e-mail, and electronic financial management.
The digital cable television adopts the broadcasting mode. If VOD is to be realized, the original HFC broadcasting network must be two-way reformed. Under normal circumstances, only interactive channels related to life information are opened. If the digital TV needs to support video on demand, it is also supported by the IP network entered by CALBE modem, which is actually IPTV. Hangzhou's digital IPTV system is exactly this mode. From the perspective of the content services provided, cable digital TV is inferior to IPTV.
3. Main advantages
The main selling point of IPTV is interaction and the expansion of services within the Inter network. IPTV can also easily integrate TV services with Internet browsing, e-mail, and a variety of online information consulting, entertainment, education and business functions, and will be in an advantageous position in future competition. The selling point of digital TV is mainly high-definition image quality.

The market user groups of both are home users, but one relies on wired and the other on broadband, which brings similar benefits to users.
5. Development prospects
The two will coexist for a long time. The development of digital TV is a policy that the country has planned for a long time. IPTV is to add a program channel to many TV programs, and does not replace cable digital TV. Because the real-time broadcast of IPTV has a certain usage cost, it is not meaningful to completely replace cable or satellite TV with IPTV. However, because of the many attractive functions of IPTV, it is still very vital as an independent program channel. From the perspective of the development of the information industry, IPTV is still the biggest entry point for triple play.

The transmission range depends on many factors. The true distance is based on the antenna installing height , antenna gain, using environment like building and other obstructions , sensitivity of the receiver, antenna of the receiver . Installing antenna more high and using in the countryside , the distance will much more far.
EXAMPLE 5W FM Transmitter use in the city and hometown:
I have a USA customer use 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in his hometown ,and he test it with a car, it cover 10km(6.21mile).
I test the 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in my hometown ,it cover about 2km(1.24mile).
I test the 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in Guangzhou city ,it cover about only 300meter(984ft).
