What is WDM and SDH

WDM (wavelength-division multiplexing), wavelength-division multiplexing technology, is a new generation of ultra-high-speed optical cable technology. The so-called wavelength-division multiplexing technology is the simultaneous transmission of multiple light waves of different wavelengths in a single optical fiber, so that the data transmission speed is The capacity is doubled. It makes full use of the huge bandwidth resources in the low-loss area of the single-mode fiber. It uses a multiplexer to combine the optical carriers of different specified wavelengths at the transmitting end, and then pass them to the single-mode fiber. In the receiving part, the multiplexing mode in which the optical carriers of different wavelengths are separated by a demultiplexer. Since the carriers of different wavelengths are independent of each other, the problem of two-way transmission can be easily solved. According to different wavelength division multiplexers (demultiplexer, multiplexer X can multiplex different numbers of wavelengths.

SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy), a synchronous digital system, is a comprehensive information transmission network that integrates multiplexing, line transmission and switching functions and is operated by a unified network management system. It is a synchronization proposed by the Bell Institute of Communication Technology in the United States. Optical Network (SONET).
The International Telephone and Telegraph Consultative Committee (CCITT) (now ITU-T) accepted the SONET concept in 1988 and renamed it SDH, making it a general technical system not only for optical fiber but also for microwave and satellite transmission. It can realize multiple functions such as effective network management, real-time business monitoring, dynamic network maintenance, and intercommunication between equipment from different manufacturers, which can greatly improve network resource utilization, reduce management and maintenance costs, and achieve flexible, reliable and efficient network operation and maintenance Therefore, it is a hot spot in the development and application of transmission technology in the information field of the world today, and has received extensive attention.

How far(long) the transmitter cover?

The transmission range depends on many factors. The true distance is based on the antenna installing height , antenna gain, using environment like building and other obstructions , sensitivity of the receiver, antenna of the receiver . Installing antenna more high and using in the countryside , the distance will much more far.

EXAMPLE 5W FM Transmitter use in the city and hometown:

I have a USA customer use 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in his hometown ,and he test it with a car, it cover 10km(6.21mile).

I test the 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in my hometown ,it cover about 2km(1.24mile).

I test the 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in Guangzhou city ,it cover about only 300meter(984ft).
