What is h-index
Anonymous attacks focus on h-index, also known as h-index or H-factor, which is a new method to evaluate academic achievements. H stands for "high citations". A researcher's h index means that at most h papers have been cited at least h times.
H index can accurately reflect a person's academic achievements. The higher a person's h index, the greater the influence of his paper. For example, the H-index of Hirsch, the inventor of the h-index, is 49, which means that there are a total of 49 papers cited at least 49 times in each of his published papers.
But there are loopholes in the h index.
It has some limitations. For example, for young scientists, because the number of published papers is relatively small, the calculation of its h index is of little significance, so it is not suitable for evaluating young scientists. It is also not suitable to evaluate the achievements of scientific masters in history. For example, according to SCI data, physicist Feynman's h index is only 21.
For the papers of researchers who frequently cited themselves, there will be the illusion of high citation times, resulting in the high h index. Therefore, simply using the h index to attack Natalie Schluter is indeed a bit one-sided.
