In this tutorial, I will explain how to make a decorative small display for your desktop. It connects to your PC via USB, you can upload any of the images you want (240 * 240 bmp).
It uses Arduino Pro Micro for serial connection and ST7789 LCD display, I decided to use a matchbox as a housing because it is perfect, it looks very cool.
This project is ideal for beginners and is low in production.

Step 1: Connection and code
I am using a professional microplate, so I have to install the correct driver and add it to the board manager of Arduino ID.

You can also use Arduino nano or any Arduino board that integrates serial COM.
Download code and upload it to your board (I use CBM80amiga code, just avoiding the line of uploading time on the display). It also contains some pictures, so you can test it.
First test the circuit on the breadboard to check if everything is correct before welding (to test, check the "Upload Image" step).

Warning: If you are using a different board with Pro Micro, make sure that SCL and SDA are properly connected to your Arduino, because SCK and MOSI may be in different pins (such as D13 and D11)
I followed all the connections, welded the short line, so they can be well fixed to the box (approximately 5 cm long wire). Test the monitor to see if you are welded (test, please check the step "upload image")
Step 2: Matchbox housing
My match size is very suitable for the display (3.5 * 4.5 * 1.5 cm). I first chose the position I wanted and cut a square (2.6 cm), I smasted the matchbox, so I could be cleared to ensure that only the front of the box.
Place the Pro Micro Board in the sliding portion of the box and mark the location of the USB port so that we can connect the cable, you can use tags around the port and stick it on the cardboard for perfect cutting.
Now we are ready to stick it all, first add glue on Pro Micro's plane and paste it into place (where you punched it for USB port) I added more glue on the board to make sure it won't move Because we will use the USD port.
Take your wire in the box so you can put the display in an appropriate position to make sure the pulverization wire, make the display flat, we can slide the cover. Add a lot of glue below the display and the surroundings, and fix it when it cools it (ensuring do not burn the finger)
The cover portion of the sliding box and aligns the hole with the screen, I added a little glue, so that the two parts are sticky together and will not scratch the display. You can use the box in the box override the screen and leave a small window.
Step 3: Upload pictures
We will use Coolterm to send images in BMP format and 240 * 240 pixels for serial communication. You can edit the image to 240 * 240 on Photoshop and export it as a BMP file.
- Connect Arduino Pro Micro to your PC and make sure it is displayed as serial port on your device manager.
- Run COOLTERM, it will display the selected COM port and baud rate (we will upload to 115200, because it will get faster)
- Click Connect, Options and make sure to select the correct COM port and the baud rate of the 115200 from the Pro Micro, and then click OK.
- Now we have already set it, we can "connect", it will display the time of the connection and the number of bytes sent.
- We can drag and drop our BMP images onto Coolterm or click Connect, "Connect", "and then click" all files (*. *) "And select the image you want to upload.
- It will start uploading, uploading for 21 seconds, you can only send a picture at a time, it will upload the top of the last one like a video.
