L298N is a dual H-bridge driver IC, which provides a powerful, easy to use and cost-effective solution for the manufacturer.
Most amateur fans may never use IC alone, but one of the various prefabricated modules using the chip. This article will introduce the basic functions and specifications of these modules, and explain how to quickly start using any L298N-based H-bridge module.
About L298N
If you want to control a relatively high power, you will not be able to provide sufficient current from a simple microcontroller. You need a device that can open and close to control high power load. In addition, you are likely to wish to rotate in both directions. The H bridge is a method for easily controlling the motor using a low power microcontroller.
You can find L298N-based modules connected to a low-power microcontroller in many different projects. For example, robots, electronic tools, home automation applications (such as automatic shutters) and inexpensive high power LED drivers.

As mentioned above, you can get an IC or you can purchase a prefabricated module. Both are easy to get. The IC itself is manufactured by STMicroelectronics, and modules can be purchased from many different online suppliers.
Important specification
Size refers to the most common modules. Almost all of these seem to be like the above. However, please be sure to check your specific manufacturer's data sheet!

How does H-bridge work?
This is a double H bridge controller, which means it controls up to two motors. Each motor has its corresponding positive and negative terminals, which must be connected thereto. These are typically labeled as OUT_1 and OUT_2.
The direction of each motor can be controlled separately by two input pins:

When INP_A and INP_B are low, the motor is turned off. If one of the pins are high and the other pin is low, the motor will rotate in one direction. To reverse the motor, please reverse the state of the input. If the two pins are tall, the motor will stop again.
Note that according to the motor you use, IC will become very hot, you must need to use it with the heat sink to avoid corruption your build.
