"I. Preface: Weixing gs65 series notebook, a sincere work of Weixing, is on the market
Lightweight and powerful notebooks have always been the goal of many game players. A year ago, thin game books either had poor performance or poor heat dissipation. Few could pass in both aspects, and the price was very high.
In June 2017, NVIDIA released the max-q solution for thin and light game books, so that the game performance of the mobile graphics card can control its noise and power consumption while maintaining the peak, and make the appearance of the notebook more light and thin, so as to maintain the most balanced state of the game book as a whole.
Through the design of max-q, NVIDIA can even plug a GTX 1080 level graphics card into a game book with a thickness of only 18NM.
On April 3, 2018, Intel officially released the coffee lake-h series mobile high-performance eighth generation core processor for high-performance games. With the power of 14nm + + process, there are two more cores under the same TDP, and the theoretical performance is significantly higher than that of the previous generation by more than 40%. The combination of coffee lake-h and NVIDIA max-q is like a pair made in heaven. The thin and powerful notebook is no longer a fantasy.
After Intel released the coffee lake-h processor, MICROSTAR also launched the gs65 series lightweight game book. G stands for game, that is, it is positioned as the game book; S stands for wealth thin, that is, light and thin; 6 indicates that the screen size is 15.6 inches; 5 indicates that it is the fifth generation of the series of products (in fact, it is the fourth generation. MSI did not launch gs64, perhaps because of consideration of Chinese traditional culture, or because it believes that the performance improvement of gs65 is fully over the second generation compared with gs63).
MICROSTAR gs65 is equipped with Intel's eighth generation 6-core i7-8750h processor, GTX 1070 max-q unique display, dual channel 16GB memory and 512gb SSD. This hardware configuration can be called the top in any aspect.
In addition, the most prominent feature of gs65 is that it is equipped with 144hz IPS screen (the vast majority of notebooks known as 144hz use TN screen). 144hz I believe everyone knows that it brings players a silky smooth game experience.
Gs65 achieves the above with a thickness of 18mm and a weight of 1.8kg. The R & D strength of MSI has been fully demonstrated here.

We received the version with GTX 1070 (max-q) and gs65 with GTX 1060 (max-q).
GTX 1070 (max-q) has 2048 stream processors, 64 ROP units and 128 texture units, which is slightly stronger than the desktop GTX 1070. However, the basic frequency of 1101mhz and the acceleration frequency of 1266mhz are much behind the desktop version.
Under medium and low load, GTX 1070 (max-q) can keep running games at the frequency of 1500mhz. In most cases, GTX 1070 (max-q) can achieve about 80% of the performance of desktop GTX 1070.
At present, the news of 11 series graphics cards is flying all over the world. Based on the data obtained so far, the biggest improvement of 11 series is the adoption of gddr6 video memory and more advanced 12NM process (in fact, the name of TSMC 16nm process is changed). There will not be much change in the architecture. It is expected that the performance will be improved by about 20%.
However, in view of the yield and capacity of gddr6 in the first mass production, the price will not be very good. 11 series graphics cards will coexist with 10 series graphics cards such as GTX 1070 (max-q) in the market for a long time to form complementarity.
2、 Appearance and disassembly: 144hz E-sports IPS screen three heat pipes + three fans cooling scheme
Surface a of gs65 has changed from the previous brushed texture surface to a frosted surface, which looks more textured and is not easy to be contaminated with fingerprints and dust. The four sides of side a are designed with gold-plated diamond cutting.
The left and right frames of side B are about 4.5mm, the top is 8mm, and the chin is 28mm. 720p camera and microphone remain at the top.
The narrow frame design makes the screen account for 82%. Compared with the same 15.6-inch screen, the fuselage area is smaller and can be easily put into the backpack.
As an e-sports game notebook, gs65 adopts a 144hz refresh rate, full HD resolution 15.6-inch screen, and is still an IPS panel (most 144hz displays use TN screen), with guaranteed visual angle and color performance.
The characteristic of high refresh rate is "smooth", which not only makes the game look more real, but also almost never sees faint drag marks when moving the mouse or window.
In addition to the refresh rate, the response speed of this screen is also good, reaching 7ms, which can meet the demand of 144fps.
The RGB single key colorful backlight game keyboard designed in cooperation with Sirui has a soft touch and moderate key range. Using SteelSeries engine 3 software, 16.7 million color RGB backlight can be customized for each key.
Due to the narrow border design of the screen, the overall size of the notebook is reduced and the full-size numeric keyboard cannot be added. Removing the keypad may make some people who like numeric keys uncomfortable, but the advantage is that they can type with their hands centered.
There is also a hollow area on side C, which can bring better heat dissipation effect. However, when playing large-scale games, the heat feeling here will be more obvious.
There is also a power on button in the middle.
The colored paper in the lower left corner of side C indicates various characteristics and selling points of the notebook, such as VR ready, 8-hour battery life, serro RGB keyboard, Dana sound, 144hz screen, etc.
There are USB 3.0 interface, type-C interface, minidp interface, HDMI 2.0 interface and power interface on the left.
There is a Gigabit LAN port, two USB 3.0 interfaces and a 3.5mm headphone microphone interface on the right.
The top is an air outlet.
Almost the general parts of surface D are hollowed out, which is also to facilitate heat dissipation. There is a speaker unit of Dana sound system on the left and right of the anti-skid pad below. The volume is large enough. If you go out to watch movies and play games, gs65 can be competent. There will be no problem of "thin notebook speaker is not good" in the traditional concept.
The power adapter supports 100 ~ 240V wide voltage input, 19v 9.23a output standard, and the maximum output power can reach 175W.
Disassemble the bottom cover of side D, and the internal structure is shown in the figure below.
At the bottom left is the killer wireless-ac1550 wireless network card. The measured wireless connection speed is stable at 433mbps. The network card also integrates Bluetooth 5.0.
Here is a lithium ion battery with a capacity of 80.25wh. It can support gs65 for 8 hours of video viewing.
There are two Dana speaker units next to the battery.
The other side of the motherboard. It can be seen that gs65 uses a total of three fans + three heat pipes.
GTX 1070 (max-q) is covered by two heat pipes in the middle, and the two heat pipes are connected with three fans.
The other covered by a wide heat pipe is i7-8750h. In addition to the quantity, the heat pipe diameter is also important. Don't underestimate that it is just a heat pipe. Its diameter is large enough to allow the 8750h to operate with a 45W TDP for a long time.
Below the CPU is Samsung ddr4-2400 8GB memory, two 16GB in total, forming a dual channel.
Below the memory is Toshiba SG6 512gb SSD. Unfortunately, this SSD uses the SATA channel, so the maximum speed is only about 500MB / s.
3、 Performance test: GTX 1070 (max-q) enjoy mainstream 3d masterpiece
1. CPU theoretical performance test
I believe many netizens are very concerned about whether the cooling system of gs65 can suppress i7-8750h + GTX 1070, what frequency i7-8750h can operate under various loads, and the test ambient temperature is 28 degrees.
FritzChess：
During chess test, i7-8750h can maintain the TDP of 55W until the end of the test, the frequency is stable at 3.2 ~ 3.3GHz, and the CPU temperature is 90oC.
The final fritzchess single thread score was 3128 and multithreading score was 17535. The multithreading score is slightly higher than the i7-7700k of the default frequency.
CineBench R15：
In the cinebench R15 test, the i7-8750h can maintain the TDP of 56W in the whole process, the frequency is stable at 3.2ghz, and the CPU temperature is also 90 OC.
Cinebench R15 has a single thread score of 169cb and a multithread score of 1031cb. The multithreading performance is about 10% better than that of the silent frequency i7-7700k.
CPU-Z：
Due to the short test time of CPU-Z, the TDP of i7-8750h has always been above 60W, the whole core frequency has also reached 3.5GHz, and some core temperatures are about 80 OC.
CPU-Z single thread score is 452 and multi thread score is 3277. CPU-Z can directly compare the performance. The performance of single core is 9% lower than that of i7-7700k, and that of multithreading is 22%.
2. Disk performance test
MICROSTAR gs65 adopts a Toshiba SG6 512gb SSD with the following running points:
In the as SSD benchmark, the total score of gs65 is 980, 4K, random reading 26.8mb/s and random writing 90.3mb/s.
In the crystal diskmark test, the sequential read and write speeds of gs65 reached 540mb / s and 489.7mb/s respectively,
3. Game performance test
3DMark
As a classic test software, the test results of 3dmark firestrike can well reflect the game performance of CPU and graphics card.
In the FSE test, the physical score of gs65 is 14246 and the GPU score is 6858. The graphics performance is about 20% different from the GTX 1070 of the desktop public version.
Out of the siege: human Division
The picture is set to 1920 * 1080 NOAA and dx12 + with the default maximum picture quality.
The test results show that the average number of frames is 45, with a minimum of 10.2 and a maximum of 59.4. This achievement can reach 70% of non-public GTX 1080.
Tomb Raider 10
The picture is set to 1920 * 1080 fxaa and dx12 + with very high picture quality by default.

Assassin's Creed: origin
Assassin's Creed: origin is the largest in the history of the assassin's Creed series produced and distributed by Ubisoft. This work adopts the open map sandbox playing method. The game presents almost the whole ancient Egyptian kingdom. No one can surpass the picture quality and scenery.
The picture is set to 1920 * 1080 + with extremely high picture quality.
The total score of gs65 is 6060, the evaluation is medium, and the average number of frames is 52fps.
Previously, when we tested the i7-8700k + Yingzhong GTX 1080 super ice dragon version, the frame number was 71fps, and the performance of gs65 reached 73% of that of non-public GTX 1080.
Singularity ash
As an old PC test project, singularity ashes has very high requirements for processors and graphics cards.
The picture is set to 1920 * 1080 dx12 + crazy picture quality.
As a result of the test, the gs65 has 40.9 frames. Compared with the desktop GTX 1070, there is a difference of 9 frames, which is also a gap of 20%.
Wizard 3
"Wizard 3" is the third part of the "Wizard" series of game works, and it is also the final song of jerot's adventure. Layer won the 33rd golden rocker Award for best plot, best visual design, best game moment, and ign's best game of 2015.
The picture is set to 1920 * 1080, with the default maximum picture quality.
Since wizard 3 does not provide a test program, the game test method is to turn back and walk between the balcony of the room and yenaifa for 20 seconds after the start, and record the number of frames with Fraps.
The test results show that the average frame rate of gs65 is 69.8fps.
Previously, when we used Yingzhong GTX 1080 super ice dragon version for testing, the test result was 100fps in the same scenario. In other words, the performance of GTX 1070 (max-q) in wizard 3 can reach 70% of that of non-public GTX 1080
4、 Temperature & endurance and other tests:
The importance of heat dissipation for notebook is self-evident. With a powerful hardware configuration, if the heat dissipation capacity is insufficient, the frequency of CPU and graphics card will be reduced, which will seriously reduce the performance of the whole machine. At the same time, high temperature will also accelerate the aging of electronic components, so that the notebook can not reach the design service life and be scrapped in advance.
Next, we use Furmark and aida64 to load the GPU and CPU at the same time to check the temperature performance of gs65.
After 10 minutes of testing, the temperature of CPU and graphics card basically stabilized. The maximum temperature of the CPU has been maintained at 92 degrees, while the temperature of the graphics card is 85 degrees. Check the power meter. At this time, the power consumption of the whole machine is 140W.
For the notebook surface temperature test, after the CPU and graphics card are fully loaded for 10 minutes, we use the temperature gun to read the temperature of each part of side C as follows:
The temperature of the GPU cooling outlet on the upper left is the highest, reaching 46 degrees, the CPU outlet on the upper right is 42 degrees, and the surrounding temperature of the boot key is 40 degrees. The temperature of WASD area is 39 degrees, the temperature of the area on the right of the keyboard is 37 degrees, and the temperature of the touch panel is 32 degrees. There is little difference between the temperature of keyboard and touch panel and hand temperature, and there is no discomfort during input operation.
Endurance test
The gs65 has a built-in lithium battery with a total capacity of 80.25wh. The official claims that it can achieve 8-hour battery life. We use pcmark8 to test it. During the test, close all other processes, adjust the screen brightness to 50%, and select the high-performance mode in the power mode
