Integrated Semiconductor's "Cannes / Monaco" series HEVC decoding system chip and Maxlinear Full-Spectrum CaptureTM four-channel or eight channel MXL5XX front end IC
Maxlinear and STMicroelectronics (ST) release a reference design platform to speed up the global toll satellite operator to deploy the next generation of ultra HD tip boxes and gateways.
This reference design can accelerate OEM vendors to develop next-generation set-top boxes and gateways, allow satellite TV operators to provide ultra HD TV content using efficient video coding (HEVC / H.265) standard. This advanced reference design integrates the next-generation technology for semiconductor and maxlinear, supports the most stringent satellite TV operator service, including multicompractors, multi-channel personal video (PVR), video on demand (VOD), used to Two-screen clients transmit content multi-standard transcoding and state-of-the-art graphics processing technology while maintaining extremely low power consumption.
This reference design uses MaxLinear's similar MXL5XX Series Full-Spectrum CaptureTM (FSCTM) Satellite Receiver and STMic Pin Compatible Stih312 "Cannes" and Stih412 "Monaco" Top Box System Chip (SOC) Decoder . The design platform supports various terminal products, including multi-channel decoded Hevc-Ready HD top boxes and 4K ultra HD HEVC decoding, with a display that supports multiple HD media streams in real time transcoding high-end servers.
The pin of the two series of decoders is compatible with each other, enabling the reference design to extend from 4 channels to 8 channels, high flexibility to support the full HD or 4K ultra-high-definition or non-rotation function. If the front chip is changed to the MXL2xx series FSC multi-channel cable TV receiver, the platform can meet the needs of cable TV MSO operators. Be
The FSC front-end chip allows satellite TV operators to support multi-channel functions, such as fast switching channels, transfer media streams to multiple televisions or IP devices, flexible TV volume and background progressive video on demand. Equipment vendors can also choose to increase MaxLinear's market leading surface television front-end modules to receive air-transmitted ground television broadcast signals.
Cannes / Monaco system chip design based on ARM multi-core processor, built-in MaliTM GPU has excellent 2D / 3D graphics processing performance, integrated hardware Faroudja® multimedia subsystem supports robust HEVC video decoding, high performance video coding and high quality video Process. The Cannes / Monaco series system chip provides a rich interface: support Wi-Fi PCIeTM interface, smart card interface, 6Gbit / s Gen 3 ESATA hard disk interface, USB2 / 3, SPI, I2C, SDIO, and DDR3 memory interfaces, can be flexible and Economic hardware design. This series of products also provides a high-value content transfer security tool that allows designers to optimize the transmission performance of high value content. The power consumption of these two series chipsets is very low, combined with active standby mode support, allowing device manufacturers to develop industry-leading low-power solutions.
HERVE MATHIEU Director of Top Boxes and Gateway Division, THE STMicroelectronics Director HERVE Mathieu The value of TV content. The design is a powerful and flexible platform for the semiconductor / Maxlinear gateway. It is bound to completely change the visual experience of traditional TV. The market leadership of semiconductor and "Cannes / Monaco" platform is successful in global Deployment provides our global TV operators to provide the best conditions to new groundbreaking platforms. "
Brian Sprague, vice president and general manager of MaxLinear, said: "In 2015, support 4K TV content will be the primary task of Satellite TV operators, which will establish the highest performance and minimum power consumption in the gateway market. Our FSC tuner and The high-performance 4K / HEVC system chip for semiconductors makes this reference design becomes the ideal choice of first OEM vendors. "
Technical Key Points - MXL5XX
The MXL5XX series includes MXL541, MXL561, MXL581, which have 4, 6, 8 demodulators, respectively. MXL582 has two RF inputs that support 8 demodulators. The MXL544 supports 4 RF inputs, with four demodulators, while the MXL584 provides 4 RF inputs and 8 demodulators. The entire product is a very small pin-compatible 10mm x 10mm QFN package, which is ideal for minimizing system manufacturing costs.
MXL5XX Product Integration includes all active front devices within the low noise amplifier (LNA). Due to the high system integration, the terminal design is very small, only small low-cost passive devices and a crystal, achieving a compact low-cost system solution.
The capture bandwidth of each radio frequency input can be configured to conventional L-band (950 MHz - 2150 MHz) or a wider bandwidth (250 MHz - 2300 MHz). Other advantages of FSCTM technology include embedded remote spectrum monitoring to provide built-in performance monitoring and remote diagnostics for Satellite TV operators.
The low power consumption and power control flexibility of the MXL5XX device allows the standby and working mode of the terminal device to consume Energy Stars and the European Digital TV Service and the Broadband Equipment Industry Act.
Technology Points - Stih312 and Stih412
From a wide range of support for the high value TV content of Ultra HD (STIH312) and HD (STIH310, STIH305), the CANnes Series client system chip covers various application needs.
This series of products is based on ARM multi-core processor, providing excellent computing performance, excellent 2D / 3D graphics performance, hardware video encoder for integrating built-in pre-processing, and Faroudja® enhanced video processing functions. This series of products also integrates a PCIeTM, smart card interface, two 6Gbit / s Gen 3 ESATA interfaces that support Wi-Fi connections, and usb2 / 3, low power mode, and high value content transmission integrated security tools.
The "Monaco" series provides an economical and fully functional solution for server applications (such as home gateways). The STMicroe Faroudja Transcoding Engine is the best in the same class that implements a multi-screen audiovisual experience on consumer electronics and handheld devices. This allows operators to reduce network bandwidth while providing high quality services at home. "Monaco" series includes ultra HD Stih412 and optimized cost derivatives (STIH407 and STIH410 for HD market optimization).
