Norwegian Oslo - March 26, 2018 - Nordic Semiconductor announced that the most widely used Internet of Things (IoT) platform particle selection Nordic NRF52840 low-power Bluetooth®Low Energy / Bluetooth Le) / Ant / 802.15.4 / 2.4GHz proprietary system-level chip (SOC) for its end-to-end Mesh network development platform particle Mesh.
The Particle Mesh platform enables developers to quickly utilize the IEEE 802.15.4 node running OpenThread (an open source version Thread). Thread is a low-power wireless connection specification, which includes powerful security, reliability, and scalability, and supports developer-friendly IP (IPv6) Mesh networks with 6LoWPan. Particle Mesh includes Argon (supporting Wi-Fi / Mesh / low-power Bluetooth), Boron (supported LTE M1 and NB1 / MESH / low-power blue tooth) and Xenon (supporting Mesh / low-power Bluetooth) three IoT gateways, with Connect the low power wireless sensor Mesh network to the Internet.
NRF52840 SOC is through Bluetooth 5 (low-power Bluetooth) and Thread 1.1 authenticated wireless solutions, which is the only multi-protocol SOC that supports Bluetooth 5 and Thread dynamic coexistence. The function of this SOC device is implemented by the Dynamic MultiProtocol feature of low-power Bluetooth and Thread, in addition, it supports Nordic's S140 V5 protocol stack (low power Bluetooth protocol stack) and OpenThread RF protocol stack.
NRF52840 SOC with 32-bit ARM® Cortex® M4F processor, 1MB Flash storage space and 256KB RAM ensure that the Particle Mesh development kit can support the most complex wireless applications, while SoC's ARM CRYPTOCELL-310 password accelerator ensures safe wireless Equipment firmware update (OTA-DFU).
Particle Mesh Gateway uses NRF52840 SOC's Thread function to communicate with other Thread devices on the Mesh network, while low-power Bluetooth connectivity allows developers to use Bluetooth 4.0 (and higher) smartphones and tablets for Mesh network settings, deployment and On-site diagnosis.
The Particle Mesh Development Kit is pre-configured to fully integrate with Particle's "Equipment Cloud" (a set of unique development tools and cloud infrastructure) to build, connect, and manage the Mesh network.
Nordic's NRF52840 Low Power Bluetooth SOC is the most advanced ultra-low power wireless solution of Nordic, support complex low-power Bluetooth and other low-power wireless applications, which are previously unable to be implemented in a single-chip solution. This SOC combines the ARM processor with a 2.4 GHz multi-protocol radio frequency architecture, with -96dBM reception sensitivity and on-chip PA boost output power, up to 8 dBm. This SOC is supplied with Nordic's S140 protocol stack while supporting low-power Bluetooth roles such as main mode, peripherals, broadcasts and scans.
