Xilinx
Although Intel CEO Brian Krzanich claims that Altera's market share has grown after the acquisition, but I didn't find significant changes in the industry pattern. The propaganda title of "Largest-Fastest-Latest Technology" (Maximum and Up New Technology) also means "the most expensive". In the nearest three-generation process, Xilinx has always been ahead of Altera, such as the technology on 16 / 14nm, more than one year. I have expected that the technical highland can bring more design advantages and promote revenue growth. The design time of FPGA is getting longer. Among them, I expect ASIC simulation launch time will be relatively early. The simulation company needs to develop complex software environments, dividing the ASIC design into a controllable part, and then distribute the design to the supplier tool. This is not simple, but they don't need design verification and integration with software, this is the end user. All squares involved in communication applications, take longer to enter the product phase. The R & D cycle required for military applications is still long. Therefore, the revenue growth of Xilinx will appear in the next few quarters.
Altera
I think that I benefited Altera from Intel's acquisition, and now it is too early. Everyone knows Intel needs FPGA acceleration equipment to maintain its dominant position in the data center business. Microsemi, Lattice, and other
I suspect that I underestimate its FPGA revenue for Microsemi, and overestimated Lattice. Both companies will not regularly disclose performance data. MicroSemi is highly focused on the FPGA security application, such as national defense and aviation, which require longer R & D cycles. But this is also beneficial: each generation of life cycles are long, and you can sell longer. MicroSemi will benefit up to US national defense expenditure growth.
Some of the Lattice's FPGA products can be used for consumer-class applications. This part of the product has seen significant production growth in 2016, as well as the same price. Lattice also has strong competitiveness in the mid-end product line.
Finally, QuickLogic's revenue decline sharply. This is because its business relies on several major projects of Samsung. Its CEO hopes to pay the balance in the end of 2017, for a long-term loss. "Others" in the table contains Achronix, which is still dependent on venture capital funds and does not publicize performance and financial statements.
Best FPGA 2016
For what elements are only "best" products, each technician has its own evaluation standard.
