How to set up the microphone stand

Step 1: Microphone stand kit

I bought this microphone stand with the wind deflector and pop-up filter. You can find them on eBay, which is a very good bargain. Including shipping costs, the cost is about 25 euros.

 

Step 2: Kit contents

 

 

The kit includes a shock-proof stand condenser microphone. Suspension arm and vise. I also picked up a pop-up filter to try to provide a better sound for my dubbing.

This may not be the best kit for professional broadcast studios or regular podcasts, they will use it a lot. I only need some basic functions to fix the microphone in a fixed position.

 

Step 3: Clip to the desktop

 

The first step is to install the table clip to the side of my table, I want the arm stand to be there.

 

Step 4: Insert the suspension arm

 

After screwing it into place, I inserted the cantilever suspension arm. The horizontal travel of the suspension arm is approximately 1 meter (3-4 feet).

 

Step 5: Insert the microphone holder

 

I use Rode's shotgun microphone. It is not a condenser. I used the regular microphone holder that came with it. If you have a condenser microphone, you should install a shock-proof stand-type stand.

 

Step 6: Install the pop-up filter

 

Then I proceeded to install the pop-up filter to the suspension arm.

 

Step 7: XLR input RCA output

 

Once completed, it is time to plug the microphone into the XLR input of the mixer. There is an XLR cable inside the boom suspension arm, so you don’t need to use your own microphone cable.

 

Step 8: Setup is ready

 

The mixer output is connected to my external sound card via the RCA interconnect cable.

My sound card is connected to my computer via USB.
