What is uC/OS

uC/OS is a real-time embedded operating system with open source code.

The main features of uC/OS-Ⅱ are as follows:

1. The source code is open, the system is transparent, and the operating system can be easily transplanted to different hardware platforms.

2. Strong portability, most of the source code of uC/OS-Ⅱ is written in ANSI C, which is highly portable. The part related to the microprocessor hardware is written in assembly language, which has been suppressed to a minimum, making uC/OS-Ⅱ easy to transplant to other microprocessors.

3. Curable, uC/OS-Ⅱ is designed for embedded applications, which means that as long as the developer has the means of curing (ROMable) (C compilation, linking, downloading and curing), uC/OS-Ⅱ can be embedded in The developer’s product becomes part of the product.

4. It can be tailored. Through conditional compilation, only those system service programs needed by the application in uC/OS-Ⅱ can be used, so as to reduce the memory space (RAM and ROM) required by uC/OS-Ⅱ in the product.

5. Preemptive mode, uC/OS-Ⅱ is completely preemptive (PreempTIve) real-time kernel, which means that uC/OS-Ⅱ always runs the highest priority task under the condition of ready. Most commercial kernels are also preemptive, and uC/OS-Ⅱ is similar to them in performance.

6. For real-time multitasking, uC/OS-Ⅱ does not support Round-roblin Scheduling. This scheduling method is suitable for scheduling tasks of equal priority.

7. Deterministic, the execution time of all uC/OS-Ⅱ function calls and services is deterministic.

Since uC/OS-II is only a real-time kernel, it means that it does not provide users with only some API function interfaces like other real-time operating systems. Many tasks often need to be completed by users themselves.
Porting uC/OS-Ⅱ to the target hardware platform is only the beginning of the system design work. Later, uC/OS-Ⅱ needs to be expanded according to actual application requirements, including the underlying hardware driver, file system, and user graphical interface. (GUI) and so on, so as to establish a practical RTOS.a
