"When the iPhone suddenly entered the Roman digital age, we speculated that Samsung might present Galaxy SX for us. But now, what we are facing is Samsung's new generation flagship S10 and s10e. Are they as simple as their names say? Only disassembly can tell us the final answer!
Is this disassembly a maintenance guide. To repair your Samsung Galaxy S10, please use our service manual.
Step 1
What exactly does e represent to make it independent from S10? Let's see if the parameter specifications provide clues:
Super AMOLED infinity-o screen - 5.8 inches (resolution 2280 x 1080) for s10e and 6.1 inches (resolution 3040 x 1440) for S10
Qualcomm snapdragon 855 processor, and some regions provide Samsung exynos 9820 processor
10 MP front camera. In the rear camera group, both are equipped with a 12 MP wide-angle camera and a 16 MP ultra wide-angle camera, while the S10 is also equipped with a 12 MP telephoto lens
The side power button of s10e inherits the traditional fingerprint sensor, while the S10 adopts a new off-screen ultrasonic fingerprint sensor
Headphone connector and microSD card slot
Dustproof and waterproof grade of IP68
Step 2
Although S10 and S10 + are equipped with full view curved screen, it is not obvious from the front
From the back, we can see the common wide-angle and ultra wide-angle cameras, while S10 and S10 + have additional telephoto cameras
Creative electron provides us with X-ray photos to help us explore the interior of the phone
The S10 + with ceramic back cover makes the X-ray penetration performance inferior to its brother with glass back plate. In short, it is black
In our video disassembly (see the end of the article), we will disassemble the S10 + backplane
Step 3
Although these phones look similar, the wallet friendly s10e obviously has a larger power button, which makes the traditional capacitive fingerprint sensor can be placed in it
The fingerprint sensor on S10 can hardly be seen there, and disassembly can tell you the answer
Speaking of this, I hope these rearranged fingerprint sensors can make disassembly safer
Although there are some differences, they both agree that the existence of headphone holes is a very cool thing. They also have usb-c, microphone and speaker
On the top of the phone, the first thing you see is the "hollowed out screen" screen, and the screen saver is pasted for you in advance
Obviously, the toughened film may affect the performance of the ultrasonic sensor, so Samsung first pasted a film for you. But why should s10e operate like this?
Step 4
Is the new mobile phone accompanied by a new disassembly method? no We still heat the backplane as before and rely on isclack to process the backplane
Open the backplane and wait for some kind of trap, but this time it's different. The backplane is easily removed
○ Samsung may unexpectedly improve the maintainability here by removing the fingerprint sensor from here, so that the flexible cable of the backplane fingerprint sensor that bothers maintenance is erased
○ next time, will the adhesive in the machine be less stubborn
As the temperature drops, we notice the strategically placed graphite heat sink on the back plate, which can prevent the heat from scalding your fingers
Step 5
Only a few cross screws block us and the internal treasures. Our Marilin Screw Kit is enough for the team to deal with them. We are glad that Samsung only let us use a screwdriver
These middle frames with integrated coils have learned a new skill: they can now charge other devices wirelessly
That may be why this year's coil is sandwiched between two layers of graphite - a wireless charger that can accept and transmit electricity will produce more heat
○ wireless charging has always been inefficient, which generates a lot of heat as a by-product
○ how much impact this feature will have on the long-term life of mobile phone batteries is unknown - especially for mobile phones that are difficult to replace batteries
Step 6
Samsung's headphone interface module is only 12mm high and 8mm wide, with 100% modular design. This design is really gratifying. There's not even room for this little thing on the iPhone or even the iPad
We'll talk about the camera later. Now let's take out the front camera first
Our disassembly engineer pulls the main board up and down synchronously
○ unfortunately, usb-c has been taken out of the fuselage. It was once one of the few components of Galaxy series that are of positive significance for maintenance. The modular usb-c interface has disappeared
Step 7
Peeking under the motherboard, we did some cool operations
This huge copper heat pipe is more ferocious than the one inside S9. In contrast, it is more like the one we see in note9
At the same time, we tore off a multi-layer thermal interface material on the motherboard. These copper heat pipes form a huge and flat surface to provide better thermal conductivity, but it is a soft metal. You need to fill the gaps that may lead to the decline of thermal conductivity or the overheating of the mobile phone
These thin stickers also seem to provide some RF shielding functions, because we saw a large hole in the shielding cover below it, in which we found the power management IC and a large pink thermal pad
To make a long story short, we speculate that fast charging and reverse wireless charging will have a serious thermal effect on the electronic devices inside the system, and Samsung is already doing its best to deal with this heat
Step 8
Next, take out the main camera assembly from the motherboard. It is wrapped by a yellow plastic frame. The material may be ABS or nylon. It is not painted to show the original color of the material (it's a bit of the atmosphere of the 1980s, but we don't mind)
We put two camera components next to their front cameras (leftmost and rightmost)
The component (left) of S10 has one more 12 MP than s10e ƒ/ The 2.4 telephoto camera supports OIS optical anti shake, and uses the same cable arrangement as the standard wide-angle camera
Further physical disassembly will be very destructive. Here we will use an X-ray photo to show the sensor and optical anti shake device of the telephoto lens
The 12 MP wide-angle camera also supports optical anti shake and inherits the dual aperture function of S9 +
Finally, a 16 mp ƒ/ 2.2 ultra wide angle camera, nested in a slightly thicker plastic frame
○ this year's code name is "beyond", which is upgraded from last year's "Star"
Step 9
In addition to these cooling pads and cameras, there are chips waiting for us to explore. The front motherboard is as follows (top: s10e, bottom: S10). We can see:
S10e: Toshiba UFS NAND flash memory
S10: Samsung eufs NAND flash memory
Samsung k3uh7h70amlpddr4x memory is packaged on Qualcomm snapdragon 855 SOC
Qualcomm wcd9341 audio codec
Qorvo 78062 may be an RF fusion front-end module
Maxim max77705c power management IC
Skyworks 78160-5
Step 10
Samsung placed more chips on the back of the motherboard
Murata km8d03042 may be a Wi Fi / Bluetooth module
Qualcomm sdr8150 may be an RF transceiver
Qualcomm pm8150 may be a power management IC
IDT p93205 wireless charging receiver
Qorvo 78042
NXP 80t17 NFC controller
Qualcomm qdm3870 RF front end module
Step 11
Battery time! Not surprisingly, the two batteries are firmly fixed on the fuselage by the bonding machine, and there is no easy pull adhesive at all
But don't worry, we use glue remover to greatly reduce the viscosity of this bonding machine
○ we also mentioned earlier that the battery is a consumable and will need to be replaced before the end of the life of modern smart phones
The s10e battery on the left side provides 11.94wh energy, while the S10 on the right side provides 13.09wh energy (a 13% increase compared with [http: / / last year's 11.55wh | Samsung Galaxy S9 Disassembly guide])
In contrast, its competitors iPhones have 11.16wh of XR and 10.13wh of XS
Step 12
There is no way to go. We boldly dismantle these exquisite displays
Inside S10, we found a new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor
○ this is an old technology from bats and dolphins, but to be honest, it's very cool to identify your fingerprint by sound (technology provided by Qualcomm)
The technology may be novel, but so far, we have disassembled everything we can, but it can't be disassembled out of the screen
If there is any maintenance guide that Samsung head can share, that is, if the sensor fails, you will have a bill to replace the new screen
Step 13
Compared with the S10 screen of curved surface, the straight screen of s10e is simpler to handle, but unfortunately, we suspect that these screens have another fortress
S10e does not have the cool ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology on the back of the screen, but it has a familiar face:
Samsung's s6sy761x touch control IC is the same as the previous S8 and S9
Next is the capacitive fingerprint sensor we mentioned earlier, which is integrated into the power button
○ this technology is not so tall, but it is more reliable than any off screen fingerprint so far
Unfortunately, there are still many shortcomings in this repair. You need to remove the screen to repair this button
Step 14
As another heat treatment tool, these ultra-thin Samsung screens are made of copper and graphite to deal with the heat of other components inside the mobile phone
The camera holes pass through the whole body, which are carved at the pixel level. These holes pass through the middle frame and motherboard, and finally reach the camera
Different from the camera, the hidden distance sensor and fingerprint sensor can be seen through the OLED array, making it the most comprehensive screen mobile phone we have seen in the disassembly process. Under normal circumstances, you can hardly see their existence, but you can easily see them after separating the screen
Step 15
For your viewing experience, we removed two mobile phones. To make a long story short, we made a summary:
The large battery is still bonded and fixed, which is not easy to replace
Reverse wireless charging will generate a lot of heat, which may not be suitable for the long-term life of the battery
The screen is very beautiful, but replacement is expensive and difficult, and the new fingerprint sensor location does not bring much benefit
Wait a minute, we have more good things! We have completed the video disassembly of S10 +!
○ special thanks to our partner Greg Kramer, who helped us explain the intention of thermal management upgrade in these phones. Cheers Greg!
Welcome to our disassembly video
Now it's time to score it with some accompaniment
Last thought
Use only pH Phillips screws to secure all components
Many components are modular and replaceable, but the usb-c interface is now welded to the motherboard
Battery replacement is possible, but there are many unnecessary difficulties
Glued glass on both sides means a greater risk of fragmentation and is difficult to repair
Repairing the screen requires a lot of disassembly and resistance to strong adhesive
