IPTV service is a brand new business model. It brings consumers a network of information, entertainment, learning and shopping. Personal computers, set-top boxes + TV sets or 3G mobile phones can all be used as terminals for IPTV services. From the perspective of adapting to the consumption habits and comfort of most users, set-top box + TV will become the mainstream terminal for IPTV in the future.

When it comes to the technical requirements of IPTV set-top boxes, there are two main considerations: one is to meet business requirements, and the other is user experience requirements. IPTV can provide services such as live TV, video-on-demand, time-shifted TV, visual services, information services, web browsing, interactive games and future scalable services.

The main business features of IPTV are embodied in interactive multimedia retrieval and playback formats. Interaction requires the network to have two-way functions, while retrieval requires two-way information interaction. Broadcast control also requires interaction; playback requires sufficient access bandwidth and media transmission protocol; multimedia requires audio and video encoding and decoding functions.

Therefore, in order to realize IPTV service applications, IPTV set-top boxes need to support the reception of live TV programs, and implement basic service functions such as video-on-demand and time shift, as well as Internet browsing and information services, electronic program guide (EPG) and program retrieval on demand. And extended functions, such as interactive games and software online upgrades. As the IPTV service terminal, the set-top box equipment should have an open system structure to adapt to the continuous upgrade and expansion of service requirements; fully consider the network environment and protocol factors, and require it to have no less than two uplink network interfaces and support multiple access. Authentication protocol and IP; audio and video media codecs are required, as well as business applications and management functions.

In short, from an operational point of view, IPTV set-top boxes need open service functions to meet changing business needs. Taking into account the needs of user experience, the resulting change IPTV service is to transfer the learning experience of the traditional Internet PC terminal to watching streaming video to the living room, changing the forward posture to the reclining posture, and the keyboard operation to remote control . These changes require that the design of IPTV set-top boxes should fully consider user communities accustomed to operating TV sets, and should try to keep the operation simple, economical, and durable. According to the different consumer needs of users. Set-top boxes should be designed into high, medium and low grades to meet the needs of consumer groups at all levels.

IPTV set-top boxes must meet the above requirements. A series of key technologies are required during the design process, including audio and video codec technology, graphics and image display technology, media stream/control technology (protocol), middleware technology and embedded system and various interface technologies .

The transmission range depends on many factors. The true distance is based on the antenna installing height , antenna gain, using environment like building and other obstructions , sensitivity of the receiver, antenna of the receiver . Installing antenna more high and using in the countryside , the distance will much more far.

I have a USA customer use 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in his hometown ,and he test it with a car, it cover 10km(6.21mile).

I test the 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in my hometown ,it cover about 2km(1.24mile).

I test the 5W fm transmitter with GP antenna in Guangzhou city ,it cover about only 300meter(984ft).
